Step 4 - Aftercare Counselling

Although an aftercare programme is not compulsory, at Alcohol Rescue, we believe that patients should consider making this a part of their complete recovery programme. We believe that those who include aftercare as part of their recovery programme will have a better outcome in terms of success.

Aftercare Service

We will recommend that all clients include aftercare in their recovery programme; at Alcohol Rescue, we can provide you with counsellors experienced in offering this type of treatment. Our fully trained and British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy-registered counsellors will provide one-to-one sessions on a weekly basis after your programme of rehabilitation is complete.

Your rehab clinic will issue a discharge report to your aftercare counsellor so that your programme of treatment can be continued, thus allowing you to get the most from your treatment. The discharge report will highlight any areas that require further treatment so that you and your counsellor can work together to ensure you can maintain your sobriety.

An aftercare counsellor will provide you with help when it comes to applying the skills you have learned for independent sober living. He or she will also work closely with you to ensure relapse is prevented and that you stay motivated and focused on your recovery going forward.

Where Will Your Aftercare Be Held?

Aftercare sessions will be held in a private room free from distractions and interruption. While your treatment needs are our number one priority when it comes to assigning an aftercare counsellor to you, we will endeavour to do everything in our power to make sure your counsellor is located close to you. We want to make it as convenient as possible for you to attend these sessions.

Aftercare Sessions

Aftercare sessions typically last for an hour at a time and, in general, we would advise patients to attend aftercare sessions for a period of approximately twenty weeks. We know that the longer you attend aftercare, the stronger your sobriety will be and the lower the chance of relapse. Nevertheless, we also understand that budget constraints can affect the amount of aftercare sessions a patient can attend. In light of this, we can also arrange ten-week sessions for patients who cannot financially commit to a twenty-week programme. If your circumstances change or if you and the counsellor feel it would be in your best interests to extend the programme, this can easily be arranged.

In most instances, aftercare sessions will be held once a week, but this is flexible depending on the treatment needs and circumstances of the individual.

Arranging Aftercare

While we must stress that aftercare is not obligatory, we do recommend that you consider adding it to your recovery programme. It is hugely beneficial when it comes to patients learning how to adapt to normal everyday life after rehabilitation.

Re-entering society after a programme of rehabilitation can be frightening and overwhelming, but with the support of an aftercare counsellor, this can be less daunting.

If you want to avail of aftercare, simply let us know here at Alcohol Rescue and we will arrange it for you. We will find a suitable counsellor located conveniently to you, who will be able to offer the care and support you need to ensure your recovery journey stays on track.
